Timber Frame Sustainability

Environmental

Timber frame is one of the few forms of construction that is kind to both the environment and your pocket.

The soft wood for the timber frame comes from ecologically managed forests. Mature trees are less efficient at absorbing Carbon Dioxide and produce less oxygen than young trees, therefore the continued farming of the forests, where felled trees are replaced with new saplings is beneficial to the environment.

Timber uses less energy in its production than any other commercially available building material. For every cubic metre of wood used, instead of other building materials, 0.8 tonne of carbon dioxide is saved from the atmosphere. On average a timber framed house will save about 4 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

The benefits to the environment continue for the life of the building. Because the timber frame is highly insulated less energy is required for day to day heating. This means that average heating costs are 30% lower than for masonry houses.

The vast majority of the timber products we use are FSC / P.E.F.C. certified and we are fully accredited to offer chain of custody should it be required.
